In recent years, more and more men have come to realize the benefits of traditional wetshaving. As men have abandoned their canned gels and plastic razors for more traditional products, many have also come to realize the benefits of a skin care regimen. Twinluxe, a luxury skincare and shaving brand, offers a complete men’s solution that incorporates both proper skin care and shaving in their product portfolio. I have been impressed with Twinluxe’s shaving products and was curious to see if its skincare system worked equally as well. This review takes a look at the core component of the skin care line, the Renewing Face Wash & Scrub.
When most men take up proper wetshaving, they quickly learn that the skin must be prepared for a shave by thoroughly soaking the beard with hot water to relax pores and allow the stubble to soften. The component that many men overlook, however, is the added benefit of taking their preparation a step further with a good quality facial cleanser. Throughout the day, the natural oils cause dirt and grime to build up on the surface of the skin, and this combination of dirt and oil has even more tendency to collect within the hair follicles of the beard, making them more difficult to wash off by simply rinsing with hot water in the shower. This build-up can lead to a rougher and more uncomfortable shave in addition to other skin complications, such as clogged pores and acne. Using a facial cleanser helps remove this layer of dirt to prepare the skin for a more comfortable shave.
The Twinluxe Renewing Wash & Scrub is formulated specifically for men to be used as part of a shaving routine. Similar to Twinluxe Soothing Face Balm, the Renewing Wash & Scrub is packaged in a high quality plastic pump container that keeps the product protected from exposure to air so that it does not dry out or spoil during storage. My favorite aspect of the container is that it measures out the perfect amount of product for each use.
The product itself is a dense white cream with a fine micro-bead scrubbing agent blended into it. Using one or two pump amounts, I massaged it onto my face using a light circular motion. The scrubbing action of the beads was noticeable, but did not feel scratchy or overly gritty on the skin like some lesser quality facial scrubs often do. Twinluxe uses a unique formulation of Asian botanicals, including rice proteins and tea extracts blended with a subtle mint like fragrance, and the menthol in the cleanser provides a gentle cooling effect on the skin and compliments the mint fragrance well. Although I normally shy away from mentholated products because I do not care for the cold and numbing sensation they often provide, the menthol content of this product is moderate and I found it to be comfortable on my skin. After thoroughly scrubbing my face for a minute or two, the product rinsed away from my skin very easily leaving my skin feeling very soft and smooth. The light cooling sensation of the menthol and the fragrance faded away within a few minutes and left my face perfectly prepped for my shaving routine.
In the past, I avoided cleansing/scrubbing products because several of the ones I had tried were too abrasive on my skin. As a result, they actually made my face feel more sensitive during my shaves and I often wound up with more nicks and irritation. Over the past month, however, I have incorporated the Twinluxe Renewing Wash & Scrub into my skincare/shave preparation routine and used it in conjunction with many of my favorite shaving products from various manufacturers. Although using the entire Twinluxe system works well, I find that this cleanser is a product that can be a great addition to any shaving routine regardless of what brands of soaps or creams are used. Despite the higher than average $38 USD price tag at Twinluxe.com, I have enjoyed using this product before my shaves. I have found it to be well worth the investment and would recommend it for those seeking a reliable and high quality skincare solution.
